Fireman Ministry in the Gator Nation
Charissa, this post is for you...
So, things are good, hot and humid here in Florida. I had a little adventure yesterday so I thought I would fill y'all in. You see, I was being the most studious intern ever (my campus minister gives me quizzes to check up on my studies...and by the way, I have to recite catechisms to him...and yeah I definitely started memorizing the LARGER catechism which contains multiple long paragraphs, and I found out yesterday it was supposed to be the shorter...so we got a good laugh when I rattled off a 5 minute paragraph for my answer...) so, like I said, I was being the most studious intern ever and I heard this loud crash. I seriously thought a car had plowed into my house. So I check the front and backyard and discover this huge pine tree had broken in half and fallen down. Well, this was fine and dandy, but the remaining half of the tree was now tangled up in the electrical wires. And since interns have some street smarts too, I thought it would be best to call the utility company to at least let them know.
In the meantime, I head back outside a few minutes later just to look at the damage and I notice a bit of smoke and a few sparks. So, I'm not too worried, but I'm thinking maybe I should make a phone call just in case. I call the non-emergency fire department number...and the woman tells me that I need to call 911 NOW. So I dial 911. By this point I'm so embarrassed because it's not even really on fire, but they tell me they're sending out units right away. And a minute later I hear the sirens coming down my street. I meet the firemen on the driveway and they're all suited up in all their fire gear. I quickly explain to them that's it's nothing serious and we all head to the backyard to take a look at it.
By this time a fire had started, but it was small and there was nothing they could do about it because they needed the utility guys to turn off the electricity. The utility guys said they were on their way and because there was a fire the firemen were liable and they had to wait with me for the other guys to get there. So, I hung out with 4 firemen on my driveway for an hour yesterday. In the meantime, the electrical wires finally break and it sounds like 3 gunshots...so of course the entire neighborhood comes outside and finds me hanging out with a fire truck in front of the house. The whole scene was just funny. Eventually, everything got taken care of and no studying was accomplished....

Oh my gosh - incredible. That is amazing - you are the best! PS Anne, the girl who is dating one of our core group guys, said that she talked with you and I thought (uh, lucky!). She's sweet. Anyway, kudos on the larger Catechism. Kram and I got tested this Monday, and I couldn't remember the wording on a section of the 3rd answer, and I wrote out what I remembered and then put “Yikes” at the margin. I think I’m runner-up for most studious! Thanks for the update SJ.
Sara Joy!
I'm with you on the "no studying getting accomplished"....of course, my studying isn't hindered by such severe circumstances. Funny you should mention the larger catechism because Trey asked Marshall if he really could memorize it to get one step ahead for seminary..I think it's really because he wants to show me up while I memorize the shorter.
yes!! i totally got a blog entry dedicated to me. it must be my incredible persuasive powers...i mean, i obviously got will to fall madly in love with me, and now thanks to my requests, you've blogged for the first time ever.
