A Riddle for You...a Conundrum If You Will

For the past few weeks I have been struggling with an issue of increasing importance, but I haven't been able to really talk to anyone in Tuscaloosa about it. Realizing that there is more wisdom on our blog than in this debauched city, I decided to post my dilemma.

Beginning my senior year of high school, I became convinced that Mississippi State University is one of the lowest institutions in the universe with the exception of LSU (Geaux to Hell, Tigers!). Reasons for this are clear. Maroon sucks, Starkville sucks, Cowbells are as stupid as they are obnoxious, and MOST of the fans (I'm being nice here) are as obnoxious as they are stupid. There really hasn't been any reason to consider pulling for this team, particularly after they lost to Maine.

That being said, there is now a reason to no longer hate State: My new girlfriend went there, and she wants me to pull for them. Now, there are three options presented here.
1. Hate State.
2. Be neutral.
3. Pull for State.
While the lapse of sanity that caused her to go to State may be a very real thing, thus saving her character, she still wants me to pull for them. What do I do? Do I hold strong to my convictions and sacrifice sweet lovin'? Or do I change my stance to neutral (pulling for State simply is not an option)? Please help.

*I will value opinions from fellow Rebs above all others.

Hurricane

Just wanted to fill you all in on Hurricane Rita.

Class (and RUF) were cancelled from last Wednesday through today. We're starting back up tonight.

Everyone is safe. The worst things that happened was a sporadic loss of electricity.

My hometown (Beaumont) is badly wounded. My only direct account comes from my roommate, who said his parent's house is intact, but their two-car garage is completely gone. A two-car garage vanished. Residents still aren't allowed to return home.

I evacuated to McAllen, TX for the weekend, because my parents recently moved there and I hadn't come down to see them yet. It's right on the border with Mexico, so I had some great Mexican food and bought liquor for dirt cheap. I also watched Tennessee's beautiful comeback against LSU. Good job, other UT. I knew Clausen had it in him.

All in all, this is a lot better than it could have been, but the destruction wreaked by Hurricane Rita should not be forgotten. Neither should that of Katrina. Over a hundred thousand Katrina refugees thought they were finally starting to get some normalcy in Houston, but then Rita sent them reeling once more. Yeesh.

Everyone is safe, which is what matters most. God be praised.

Fight for Mississippi State....

"All of you rebels out there may be able to make fun of me about the mighty Bulldogs' loss on Saturday, but you would be sorely ignorant considering the shameful defeat that the Rebels experienced that same day...."

I thought about starting my post this way, but then I decided against it. I've decided to bury the hatchet, you know "buy you guys a round of beers" as some might say because I'm tired of all of the bitterness and out and out hate that is creating a rift in our beloved intern class. Therefore, I am waving the white flag, throwing in the towel, surrendering...I just want to be friends, guys. Lets just all get along and stop all of the hate. I promise to speak kindly to my fratastic brothers and sisters from Ole Miss. Plus, It makes me sad to see my alma mater disrespected so often. Lets just call a truce.

I will say I had a very pleasant visit to Starkville (and am anticipating one to Oxford in 2 weeks!) on Friday. It was good to be back, yet a little strange as well. Its odd realizing that I just dont live there any more.

PS Does anyone else out there just LOVE being an intern? I mean really guys, what kind of life is this that we get to lead....hang out and read the Bible and get paid for it? Seriously!

Sorry for the stupid post, I just really wanted to say something.

Have a super-fabulous day!

In the spirit of team unity,
Anna

OLE MISS IS #1!! Starkville is a terrible place.

I hope I didn't mess anything up

OK, i updated the look of the page. i also (with the help and direction of Moyni) kept the random ads from getting into our comments. i'm trying anything i can think of to get some of these shadeballs who haven't posted in forever to come back to the blog. walk towards the blog.......

Frailty thy name is Baylor guy intern

Look, I don't appreciate the insinuation that I am no longer actively concerned with this blog. I also don't appreciate the recent comments from a certain intern, who will remain nameless, that I don't post anymore to this blog. Just because things here in Oklahoma are getting busier and I can't check this thing five times a day doesn't mean I don't care.

I will not have my name sludged through the mud by a guy who hasn't contributed a post longer than two sentences since we have started this thing. I mean, what the heck? You are a college graduate.

I won't make any excuses like the fact that I do have a job besides posting to the intern blog. And if you think my absence from the forum required censure you could have 1) come to me privately hoping that I would repent, 2) bring along another trusted friend to discipline me 3) bring your complaint before the church.

I mean, c'mon biblical discipline Robert (oops), haven't you been doing your study program? I don't mean to come down to hard but I already feel a little excluded because of the obvious SEC clique that everyone knows began at staff training in May.

Go meet a freshman or something.

From Sports Illustrated on Campus

Sports Illustrated on Campus did a report on SEC road trips, and listed the school's cities in order from best to worst. Who came in last you might ask? Perhaps the Hacksaw can help.....that's right. Mississippi State University. Here's what they had to say:

Starkville. Well, at least whoever named this burg did not pull an Eric the Red (he's the dude who named Greenland and Iceland, even though the latter is greener and the former is icy) and misrepresent this pimple on the SEC's backside. Nevertheless, Starkvillians are damn proud of their town--just like the folks of Blaine were proud of theirs in Waiting for Guffman.

You can read the whole article at :

click on each school to read more about them. Peace out.

I'm calling you out

Where the heck are the Ole Miss interns? I haven't seen a blog entry or a comment from either one of them in so long. Why are they so freaking COCKY?

That's so typical of both of their pledgeships. Here's two guesses as to why they aren't blogging:

1. Alan is probably too busy making a ton of money on the motivational speaking circuit, or the semi-pro golf circuit. Actually, he's probably motivationally speaking himself to the leaderboard of each tournament. Needless to say, it's a little annoying for all the other players who have to listen to him talk about always needing to "Keep Shooting."

2. Elizabeth is probably shopping on the Square in Oxford. The next question is what is she shopping for? Clothes, shoes, OR men?? I'm going to go with the latter. She's always on the prowl, and with so many unbelievable hunks at Ole Miss (i.e. Will Toddler, The freaking Bunge, and RuPaul).

Maybe this little blog will bring those two out of hiding and back into the blogosphere. I love saying blogosphere.

memories...

dear friends,
as i was reading anna's post, i thought - wow, i havent blogged in a while and the words "jesus door" reminded me that i might have a little something to brighten your days from new mexico to auburn to winthrop to florida.... this picture will warm your hearts. so if youre feeling down, after giving vandy their best record since my dad was 8 years old - yes, 1956, or if you just have too many freshman names in your cell phones to even find anything anymore... this picture's for you!
i'm loving it here with garrett (recently engaged if you hadnt heard) and the teasleys. wake forest students love to study so i'm currently sitting at the library hanging out with 2 senior girls... weird place to hang out, but fun!

and for a little blog game.... reply and say which you think looks more like jesus

hope everyone's well
love-allison

RUF'n Crazy Lives....

No offense to Walt's post that has been at the top of the list for a solid week now, but I felt that it was high time for a new post. I really don't have much to say, but I did want to make sure that everyone is still alive. I know that your lives are probably just as crazy as mine is....what with all these students around....does anyone else feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of students there are to meet?! I am constantly getting new names of contacts.

In case you didn't hear, Coldplay was cancelled on Friday night. I was supposed to attend the concert with my fabulous co-intern, but we were informed that Chris Martin was feeling under the weather and would not be able to perform. Batman Begins at the $1.50 movie was a mediocre substitute for what could have been. Maybe someday....

How about those Commodores? I still can't believe that Ole Miss LOST to Vanderbilt on Saturday. Shameful. I was glad to hear that State pulled off another win that same day.

Sorry this is completely uninteresting and uninformative, but I did want to try to help get the blog up and going again. Lets all make posts soon so that we can keep this thing going. Wooden Jesus Door should be motivation enough to keep our blog alive. Y'all have a great day!

From "Tuscaloo" and I'm proud,
Anna

Ummmmmmm.....

Have ya'll written your newsletter yet? I definitely have not. And I have now begun to attack my study program head on, just so I don't have to write the newsletter. I just don't know what the heck to write. If you weirdos have any ideas, I would love to hear them.

We had our third large group tonight. It was pretty cool to start to recognize faces. However, I have this constant underlying feeling that I should be meeting more freshman, and reaching out to more fringe students. The only thing is, I can't tell the difference between a freshman who's never been before and the random guy who graduated two years ago but still hangs out in Ft. Worth and is "still looking for a job he likes." Does anybody else have this problem?

I know that I haven't been posting to the blog much, but I am going to try to get better. I would love to hear from some other folks too! i.e. chelsea, darlene, steve, heidi, moyni, etc. I say ya'll do it and quit talking about it.

Goodbye from Fort Walt, Texas.

Real Ultimate RUF

There's a girl here at Belmont who was talking about this website, so I checked it out. Guys, it is nothing less than amazing. And what's even more amazing was that I realized Steve Nicoletti is responsible for it. Or at least his name is plastered in quite a few places. There's a lot of pop-ups, but it's totally worth it.

TCU tape and other stuff

Anyone with a tape of the TCU game, talk to me.
Stardate 3306: Log #1 I am sitting here in the union at the book table fo r RUF. As people walk by it is all that I can do not to yell, "PLEASE TALK TO ME I WILL BE YOUR FRIEND. I LOVE JESUS. YOU SHOULD TOO. I WILL BUY YOU LUNCH JUST PLEASE VINDICATE MY EXISTENCE BY BEING MY FRIEND. "

So the mood of OU is a little down today as the beloved Sooners are recovering from their loss this past weekend. I have harped on who it was that beat them, so I will give that horse a rest. I am thinking this might be the week to start a prayer group as the student body's foundation may be a little shaken. (Presuppositon: God is at work)

I am sitting next to my friend Della Sanger who is a fifth year student at OU who is helping out a lot with RUF. She is the infamous one who responded to Urinator's blog a few days ago. Hey at least people are reading it, that is good to know, and the silent majority is silent no more.

OK, the poll today is an over under. Your choices are over the given number and under the given number. I want to be clear on this since several critics of recent posts have said I am hard to understand. Maybe I am being a little 'obtuse' (yes I have been watching shawshank redemption lately, glad you noticed)

Now the over under is TCU wins this season: 9. Will TCU have more than nine wins or less. Keep in mind they just beat the number 8 team in the nation at their place.

Peace out
